FAQ
1
What are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Semaglutide and tirzepatide are both medications that help regulate blood sugar levels by mimicking action of hormones in the body. Semaglutide a GLP-1 RA that stimulates insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, while tirzepatide acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors to provide more potent blood sugar control. Both medications are administered as injectables.

3
What’s the difference between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Both drugs are similar and treat the same conditions, but Tirzepatide is newer and slightly more effective for weight loss. However, it is also more costly. We typically suggest most patients start with Semaglutide to reduce expenses. If patients reach the maximum dose of Semaglutide without achieving their target weight or experience uncontrollable symptoms, we then recommend switching to Tirzepatide.
4
What conditions are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide used to treat?
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are prescription medications used for weight loss and improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide is also being studied for off-label use in treating alcohol addiction and inflammatory conditions.

Does the weight come back once the program is finished?
Weight loss is influenced by many factors, such as genetics, lifestyle, and metabolism, making long-term maintenance challenging regardless of the method, whether through lifestyle changes, medication, or other interventions. When using Semaglutide for weight loss, it’s crucial to collaborate with a healthcare professional who can guide and support you throughout the process. They can help create a well-rounded plan that incorporates medication, balanced nutrition, increased physical activity, and healthy habit formation.

How long does it take for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide to start working?
Both medications work very quickly! Appetite suppression and changes in digestion can be felt within hours of the injection. On average, patients lose around 10 pounds in the first month. If you don’t notice a reduction in appetite, a higher dose may be necessary to achieve optimal results.

Are there any dietary restrictions or considerations while taking Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
There are no dietary restrictions but we encourage a healthy, well-balanced diet while being on Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. While you do not need to regulate which types of food you eat on these drugs, there are some considerations for how you eat. We would recommend the following:
-
Consistent Meal Timing: Since Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are GLP-1 receptor agonists that influence the body’s response to food, it's crucial to eat regular meals to maintain stable blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
-
Balanced Meals: Focus on well-balanced meals that include nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats to support overall health and provide necessary nutrients.
-
Carbohydrate Intake: Carbohydrates can greatly affect blood sugar levels. Collaborate with your healthcare provider or a dietitian to establish the right carbohydrate intake tailored to your needs and medication.
-
Avoid Skipping Medications: Take Semaglutide or Tirzepatide as prescribed to prevent fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
-
Alcohol Intake: Limit alcohol consumption, as it can impact blood sugar and may interact with diabetes medications. Always consult with your healthcare provider about what's safe for you.
-
Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, as dehydration can influence blood sugar levels, making regular fluid intake important.
